cultists
cultists

a cult member. a senior one, at that. raised by the officiant alongside their sibling, the apostate. a witch, and used accordingly. manages what moves on the island. a personal assassin by design.

a cult member. valued by the leadership for a largely unsentimental reason: they’re useful. whether they know the full picture of what they’ve been useful for is, as yet, an open question.
werewolves
werewolves

a pack member. born. the changed state and the human state are both, entirely and equally, theirs. they’ve never had to decide which one is the real one. finds that people who’ve been bitten sometimes struggle to understand this; finds, also, that it isn’t entirely their fault.

a pack member. the one with history. something happened during the change, or in the aftermath of one. the distance between them and the rest of the pack has been the topic of discussion ever since. they’re still here, or they’ve come back. either way, the pack has a memory, and so do they.
witches
witches

the coven’s leader. has been on this island long enough to have accumulated a very particular understanding of its history — and even some of its habitants.

a coven member. the internal one, if that’s the right word for it. has been watching the way the coven manages its politics. has accumulated, in turn, questions that are getting harder to sit quietly with.

a cult member. a senior one, at that. raised by the officiant alongside their sibling, the apostate. a witch, and used accordingly. manages what moves on the island. a personal assassin by design.
cultists
cultists

the cult’s leader. the kind of person whose superpowers are rage, verve, and relatability. is spurred by their lawful evil nature to take control of the island, by any means necessary.

a cult member. believes — or stays, because leaving is impossible. they’ve made their peace with that a long time ago. the kind of person whose devotion is total, and always has something left to give.

the cult defector. knows what the cult is doing and what it intends to do. has been sitting with that knowledge, trying to figure out how to share it without being killed. they’re working on it.
vampires
vampires

a council member. the oldest of the three. old enough that their authority is simply apparent.

a council member. the one disputes go to. has made these decisions many times before. knows the precedents because they were present for them.

a council member. the keeper of the records. knows what’s been written down, and presumably what’s been left out. knows everyone’s history.

the clan’s secondary senior figure. has had an opinion about the way things are being handled for — well, a long time. longer than the steward has been willing to hear. is at the point where their patience with being unheard is wearing thin.

a clan member. somewhere in the two-to-four century range. still doing the daily work of staying human. treats their own humanity like a muscle that has to be conditioned or it atrophies. is maintaining it. how well? it depends on the day.

a clan member. the distance between who they were and who they’re becoming has been growing for a while now. visibly, too, to anyone who’s been around long enough to know the difference. is, for the record, very much aware of it.

a clan member. the youngest. still awaits the tests that matter. whether that’s a kindness or a delay depends on what fate (or the current state of the island) decides to put in front of them.
the clan’s primary senior figure. an elder vampire who has genuine council standing. is currently trying to manage a community that is, for both old and new reasons, increasingly unmanageable.
werewolves
werewolves

the pack’s leader. born into it, which is to say they’ve never had a version of themselves that wasn’t this. has been maintaining the arrangements with the other factions through what amounts to a sustained act of patience. is currently under more pressure than they’ve ever been.

a pack member. bitten. they didn’t ask for it. there was a threshold of their body that it crossed without their permission. they’re in a community now, among people who know exactly how it feels because it happened to them, too. it helps, genuinely. but the grief is still there.
witches
witches

the cult’s leader. the kind of person whose superpowers are rage, verve, and relatability. is spurred by their lawful evil nature to take control of the island, by any means necessary.

the cult defector. knows what the cult is doing and what it intends to do. has been sitting with that knowledge, trying to figure out how to share it without being killed. they’re working on it.

a coven member. still learning. the practice is new enough that it still surprises them sometimes. the coven views that as an asset and a liability in roughly equal proportion.

an unaffiliated practitioner. recently awakened, with no coven or framework to put the shape of what they can do into context. this is a concerning situation for them and for everyone nearby. the coven is aware of them. is watching. is still deciding what to do about it.
a coven member. the one the leader sends for reconnaissance. moves through spaces the head can’t. carries information across the various factions without anyone knowing how much they know in total. which is, of course, the entire point of them.
hunters
hunters

a child of the shibatas. has grown up inside the family legacy: the arrangement, the détente, the age of the family and what it’s done in that time. has known the shape of it before fully understanding what it cost to build. is starting to understand now.

a child of the shibatas. believes, completely, in the legacy of their line: exterminating nightcrawlers to restore the balance of the world. that conviction would’ve been treated as an asset — fifty years ago.
